Hair issue // going blond

~ ~

This is quite a big step for me and a radical change of hair color. I have always wanted to have blond hair, but somehow avoided risking and plunging to that change. I was always afraid that the color will turn out too yellow, that it wouldn`t suit me at all etc.

I did try highlights of some kind, and I did in fact destroy my hair once with something, and ended up looking like a bird from Sesame Street. Not what I was going for.

Davines is Italian-based, family-owned company that is well known by its high-end hair care products.

“By Creating beauty sustainably, we encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live & work, of the things they love.”

I have an amazing opportunity to participate in a davines hair seminar on Sunday 26 Jan and I am going blond. They plan to showcase their products and hair coloring techniques for blond hair - flamboyage.

So this is it. taking a plunge and risking it all the way. I have to say I am not scared at all and have full confidance that this time I will became my best blond version ever. Fingers crossed!

Let me just show you the look now (soon to be before).

(yeah, I know, I˙m quite the face maker!)

Good bye red/ginger hair, hello blondylocks!

Currently craving - Derek Lam sailor pants

~ ~

How insanely amazing are these? I need to own a pair like this. The chances for me to DIY them are like slim to none, I mean I can try, but, I think this is way out of my league. I can`t sew for me without a mannequin, so, there`s that.

But, I am sure that my seamstress will do the trick. And I am thinking in dark blue and white as well.
Perfect for spring. And maybe a pair for now, in winter option? Now I am all over  the place!

Craving for spring // spring inspired Fashiolista wishlist

~ ~

Yes, you`ve read it right. I know it is middle of January and that spring is nowhere near to be seen, but I do crave for the seasonal change. Maybe it’s because it is unusually warm for January, all this sun and temperatures around 10°C made me think of spring. And spring inspired outfits.

Book hunt: recommendations for January 2014

~ ~
I have decided to change some things around here this year. There was art creeping now and then, but never books - and I am true book worm. So I have decided to broaden my blogs horizons and start with this new topic - book recommendations. Not all (or at all) by me, but by inspiring people out there. These will be books I intend to read myself. Hopfully - all of them.

First on my list is Stuffocation. What to say about this book? I have always been interested in marketing and branding, I have studied copywriting (and got a degree, seriously!), so this book was on my list the minute I read a long, long review in newspapers few days ago. We are all, massively (except for UK residents, apparently) stuffed with too much - well, stuff. As the author says, what were things and material possession to the 20th century, experiences and stories are to 21st. So we need to realize that buying will not make us happy, it will only clutter and suffocate out lives and leave us empty and unhappy. We need to go and make life happen, experience it and absorb as much as we can. In a way, I agree, and to a point I can say I do feel that un-satisfaction slowly creeping into my life, but since I love fashion, I am not ready to give it all up. As for experiencing life to the fullest and treasuring these moments as our own life depends on it - I am all for that. The man has a point. I can`t wait to read this book. If anyone stumbles on a pdf before me - inbox please. Thank you.

It would be only so natural to feature a book about blogs on a blog, right? Although, this next one is not so much in my blogging niche, I do read a few mom blogs, I do love DIYs, so here it is. Homeward Bound: Why Women Are Embracing the New Domesticity by Emily Matchar.
The EveryGirl did a review on this book and this is how they saw the book:

"Matchar discusses why lifestyle blogs and mom blogs have become so popular—the fantasy of having a perfect family, the poor job market, the lack of maternity benefits, and an increased disillusionment with the workplace. Blogs have become an outlet for both the bloggers and the readers. Bloggers can potentially earn an income and stay at home with their families, while readers get to peak into lives that differ from their own. These blogs romanticize domestic life—young women giving up their jobs and hectic lives in favor of simpler lives filled with canning fruits, farming, and homeschooling children. They appeal to readers because they promote creativity, environmental consciousness, and family."

So, it is left to see what is the conclusion of the book. Can we have it all? I am still not nowhere near motherhood but I still find this topic interesting, and if nothing else, in the end very informative.
When it comes to romance novels we are used to female protagonists telling the story, right? And we sit at the edge of our chair, waiting to see if she will get him. But, not this one. The Love Affairs of Nathaniel Pby Adelle Waldman is a story about a guy, literature, social life and... getting a girl. Nate is well educated, enlightened about world and has a wide social circle, but sadly does not know anything about women or dating. As it turns out he is narrow-minded, shallow and on top of it all narcissistic. I truly do wonder if he finds and gets a girl, and how is this book actually written. From a girl in a boy`s perspective. I am intrigued.

If you have a book that you liked, please share. I would loved to put it on my list.

On 14 January, in London, in Little Black Gallery Terry O'Neill will open his exibit with celebrity photographs. He is a well known photographer from the 60`s and some say he was as decadent as the decade. The exibit is open till 1 March , and you can see his work that depicts many celebrities and politicians, not only from the 60s but from all of his years of work.

Miley by Marc - Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs spring campaign 2014

~ ~

For her first fashion campaign Miley did good. Looks a bit sad and boyish but I like the look of it all. Since she wore MJ last year the choice does not surprise. Not to mention their "skin" collaboration which resulted with a plain white tee but with a bold statement, both in words and picture.

After seing Lady Gaga for Versace and Rhianna for Balmain, it would seem that next spring mark the return of the celebrities.

The perfect Coatspiration

~ ~

                    Yoox               Chicwish           Won Hundred

The coat. Sometimes just a cover-up, something to keep us warm during those icy cold winter (and fall) days. But recently coats have experienced a very vivid and radical change, they are now equally important as any part of the outfit.
The revolution of a coat as an important outfit piece has resulted with coats sometimes having a role of THE outfit piece. More and more attention is brought to the coat, how it is structured and shaped, what`s the color and/or print and with every season its importance has grown to statement piece title.
To invest in a good coat is always a smart idea. You can choose a timeless piece that can go with any outfit in any occasion or you can experiment with trendy designs and prints. The most important thing while selecting a coat is to keep in mind that the (right) coat can dress you up, but also to dress you down if you don`t choose wisely.

Usually I always opt for being warm enough than indulging a trend, although sometimes you just can`t say no to the awesomeness of the coat in question. I really love current tartan trend that has spread on everything and wouldn`t mind to spend my winter in this Won Hundred coat that looks amazing but feels warm enough (if you can guess that from a photo).

And that raises the question - how often do you really get the quality (being warm enough) with the right design/trend? I can imagine that that is manageable but of course with the right price.

After holiday detox

~ ~
Holidays are behind us and a whole month ahead of us. After eating (a bit) too much for Christmas and New Years (and all days in between) I am all for a course of light foods and possibly a proper detox. Although a proper body detox requires eating nothing and drinking just water, here are some not so radical examples that can help in balancing back to everyday life.
