Mix and match: stripes and leopard print go together

~ ~
When I woke up this morning it was Monday again, another week of "house arrest" which in general is not bad and I kind of like it, but at times one can go crazy of all the TV and internet stuff. At times like these I usually read a book (or take a nap) or resort to crafting of some kind (I didn`t say I finish what I start) but today was not a day for books or crafts. It was a stripes and leopard print kind of a day.

It was a "I can shoot my own outfits, all by my self" kind of a day. No biggie. I can`t say that these photos are super quality but at least I had fun chasing our cats out of the "shooting area". Boys really are photogenic but they had their chance...

That stripes and leopard print go together is a well know fact and one of my favorite examples of mix and match.

I can imagine few more fun mixes, like stripes with floral or with dots, but this one is really something special. And I am not sure if you will ever witness me wearing anything floral (I have a strange issue with flowery clothes) even if it were paired up with (my all time favorite)  - stripes.

And I am totally amazed how intensive my hair color is! I have to say I don`t see it that way in the mirror. Crazy hair. How do you like the color?

I am wearing a thrifted leopard print blazer/shirt, H&M striped tee & hat, Sisely jeans and F21 silver shoes, vogue eye wear.

Shades of grey // the winter edition

~ ~
shades of grey_collage1 shades of grey_collage2 shades of grey_collage3

Days have never been as gloomy as past few days. Rain and heavy clouds, wind and cold that just keeps creeping in right to the bone. It seems that the world around me is in infinite shades of grey. I prefer my winter more white, to be honest. Since the internet is currently being spammed by salves of people rumbling about THE movie, here is my contribution on the subject. Shade wise.

When it comes to fashion, on the other hand, and art, design, decor etc. grey is one of the colors I really like. I have to say my winter months are mostly spent in black and/or grey, but at the same time they don`t make me gloomy or depressed as the weather does.

Somehow black and grey give me the strength and I feel very confident and powerful wearing them. For me there is something soothing in color grey. So Zen. (although today I am wearing pastel pink, stripes and leopard)

How do you spend your winter months, wearing blacks and greys or maybe more bright colors to clash with boring weather? Is your mood influenced by colors? Tell me, I would really like to know.

In & Out

~ ~
dosnaddontsvogue

Seasons change by their natural pace, but when it comes to fashion seasons and trends the pace is a bit faster and it can at times be, well, let me quote Vogue UK on that - overwhelming. Thank god we live in these digital times where (and when too) the latest info and trend in fashion are available just in few clicks. Right there on your fingertips. So what has Vogue declared to drop this season and what to shop?

And what do I think about their ideas. Because, my opinion is more important than Vogue`s. Right.

1. Out with the pool-side slip-ons, in with the wedge heels.

Hmh, I haven`t been to the pool side this summer so, no problem there. I have in total "0" pairs of slip-ons. No worry there. Wedge heels. This season I am so not into these. In general I love them, but... its like with trendy colours, I want to wear the particular one few seasons to early. Wedges are out for me but you my friend, should try them on.

2. Skinny jeans are out!? Say what!?

A-a, not for me, they are not. Dear Vogue, I would love to be IN with flared pants but, where could I buy them? Besides at Celine, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney’s? Feeling a bit money challenged here. But, as it goes for the trend in general, I could do flared pants. `70s baby! Peace out!

3. Colours.

Out with blinding colours that stop the traffic and substitute as danger signs on highways, and in with more eye friendly "cold weather" shades like "camel, sludge greens, mauves, off-browns and bruised purples". LOVE this suggestion. I am so on board. But, this is kind of expected, usually people do wear more darker and not so bright colours during fall and winter and so do I. I know, so predictable. The thing is, red in winter, with all the gray gives me head-aches and soft pastel shades, well are not for me, cleanliness wise.

4. out: hip-hop styled sportswear. In: humble craftwork, embroidery, distressed textures.

I don`t really remember going crazy over anything hip-hop, and I can`t say I have seen this trend suffocating the streets. So, we`re OK here. For Chanel crafted items I can always say - gimmeeeee! More feminine aproach is something I can see myself in, but, let’s try to stay on the minimal side of things. We can go overboard with furry fake fur coats in emerald colours. Or purple and white. Find the animal in you. /not on this list?, OK, don`t mind me then./

5. More skin vs. less skin.

OK, what a shocker. With temperatures falling rapidly with each passing day I can say that this is spot on since going out while snowing wearing just crop top and shorts with slip-ons is... something you don`t need Vogue to tell you not to do. But, I will give them a high five on making a point on seasonal dressing since I find it so annoying seeing fashionistas in, Milan lets say, in February, with snow up to your knees wearing strappy sandals. There is no BIP BIP way that you/they are not cold. No way. And I hate that. But that is another story to tell. In another time and post. So, LAYER UP!

6. Fur vs Fur.

Let me explain. So, you are OUT with your bright colour, printed exotic real fur coats and IN with "cuddly sheepskin". The bonus is if you give it that before mentioned `70s flare. If you find flare pants in any store besides Celine, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney’s. Or some other designer I can`t afford. I can`t decide on this one. Style/design wise. Real fur is always a big NO. So I will buy a blue fake fur cookie Monster type coat and have it my way. Or the really hairy one at Primark. Check it out.

7. Hair.

Say bye bye to bleached and dip dyed hair and just be yourself. Vogue has decided that this year, you are allowed to. Just kidding. It’s my natural red pigment talking, that envious little voice inside that wants to have silver white hair but can`t. Because you`re a ginger. And your hair falls out when you go blond. Every time. Remember this?

Just to clarify, I love Vogue and respect them and would give some organs to work there. I hope no one got offended by my post, just goofing and not trying to offend anyone. The thing is, fashion can sometimes go a bit crazy for no reason so, the best way to deal with it is to laugh it off.
What do you think about trends in general? Do you follow them or have your own style you live by? What would you most rather wear from this list and what is the worst trend you`ve seen in general that has conquered the masses?

Choosing the perfect bra

~ ~
   trueCo_bra_personal favorite

36C. Padded, not padded. Push-up. Double Ds. Balconette. Wire or sport? Choosing the perfect bra has always been challenging and often felt like a quest of finding a holy grail or Higgs particle. Not once have I found the ONE.

All the bras currently in my possession are not that bad, they are mainly OK, but I guess they could be better. If they "fit" they are usually not very attractive, they end up being mostly in basic colour and design, which sometimes can get pretty boring. But the real problem is finding the one that actually fits. Perfectly.

Since that time when I was 13 and I got, well breasts I had hated the fact I am a woman. Of course that is strictly bra related issue. I have very narrow chest/back but relatively rich cleavage. So, finding the cup that actually is attached to very small band has been almost impossible. Wonder why? `cus that’s just the way it is.

Buying a bra is mostly very stressful experience for m. Not because I don`t feel comfortable in my skin and/or being (almost) naked in public (in front of the shopping assistant) but because I get irritated from trying on all these bras with no success. And usually shopping assistants know nothing more than me about sizes and types. When buying, or even considering of buying a bra, I opt for the trying on in the stor option rather than ordering on-line. Although on-line bra shopping is always tempting me with wonderful designs available, but there is just too much risk and too many variables in choosing a perfect bra.

I recently came across this intriguing on-line shop for bras called True&Co. that offers you a wide range of models and designs and helps you to a) determine which size your really are and what variables are most critical with your current bra b) choose the perfect one in size, type and design from a variety of bras offered. You just log-in, answer some questions and voila - there is your answer.

Although I liked their approach and the story behind it all, how the store was opened and why. True&Co is an online boutique based around survey responses from thousands of women, separating out the data to create profiles of size and body types, and found that a lot of the product out there doesn't work for most women.

So, I tried that questionnaire out. And I am not really impressed, but only on the account of just one question - when asked which brand and in which size you currently own a bra I answered "other" for brand because mine was not on the list and 36C because that is usually my dress size and cup size. There was no question about measuring, so how can they take that number as a valid size when we all know that bra sizes vary even from model to model of the same brand.

I finished the test and they just listed bunch of bra models in "my" size.

trueCo_bra_sheer black

trueCo_bra_easy fitbasic modeltrueCo_bra

The verdict? I really, really like what True&Co has to offer. I like so many of their designs that I would probably bankrupt. But! I would be very, and I mean very hesitant of buying any type of bra from any on-line store without first trying it on. I just don`t like the hassle of returning the product and hoping next one will be the one.

But, then again, maybe it really would be.

What is your experience with choosing the perfect bra?

Disclaimer: I was not paid or contacted in any way by the mentioned brand. I find the quest of choosing the perfect bra an interesting topic and since I found out about their page and method I wanted to see what they offer and share my honest opinion.

Swimsuit season - pin up edition

Swimsuits. Each year we have the same struggle - which one to buy? How to pick between all these colors and designs? This year I am going retro - PIN UP to be precise.

Inspired by 1950s, pin ups and retro design I would pick a high waist swimsuit with ruffles, but it is hard to choose on the pattern. Polka dots or stripes? Hard decisions need to be made, so the only sane thing to do here is to buy two of them - one with dots and one with stripes.

Styled with a wide brimmed straw hat you are ready to go.

Which one would you choose? Is this a trend you would wear and if not, what is the best type of swimsuit for you?

"normcore" the trend of - normal

~ ~
Can you believe this?!
I just learned that this "trend" exists too. Seems as though, I have been in a bit of a absence from the fashion world last few weeks and missed the coronation of the latest new trend - dressing normal.

Now, the definition of normal is so relative these days. It is so relative that defining it makes the defining it self - redundant in a way. People have "developed", grown and thrived through centuries in so many ways that normality as a term of describing behaviors specific for our society has, well, changed. Drastically. And that in a way is the beauty of it.
On one side we have society's permission to wear what we find normal for us, without the fear of being  labeled in some negative way. But on the other side, we have a constant pressure to be original, different and new. That pressure can, at times, be overwhelming. Both for society and individual.

Even though the society has granted us premission to have our own "normal", it seems like in the end it doesn`t accept us if our normal is not the new normal. Usually it is just some plain, boring normal without any style. The fashion world is searching for the next new thing, the next new "normal" relentlessly and as it seems they have hit a road block in terms of trends. BIG NEW TRENDS.
Fashion repeats it self, just like history. And it is no wonder that this world, our world, in terms of fashion needs a course of repetition. It needs to blow some steam off. It is fed up of all the running all the time, of painstakingly searching for something else in the world where most of the thing have been invented, found, tried and lived. It is hard to be and stay original.

So, the only thing left is to re-invent. What is the better way than to forge a new name for an old trend. Which is not a trend itself at all. Something that was once frowned upon by "fashion people" is now celebrated as a next new trend. OH the IRONY!

I find this amusing and silly, ingenious and a bit snobbish. But the silver linning is -  it will give  me the opportunity to be fashionable when I am not even trying. Talking about this makes me think of terms "fashionable" and "stylish", well... you don`t need to be trendy to be stylish.

After this rather long introduction, I present you with next new trend - NORMCORE. Inspired by miss Chelsea.

top / jeans / silver / black / top

Even more ironical is that in wikipedia, normcore is defined as anti-fashion. I laughed so hard. Right, so anti-fashion.

The new term refers to understated, nondescript style. It encompasses the desire to fit in rather than stand out.
But still, it is fashion. Just maybe not so loud. Keelping low profile, not standing out is just its current philosophy and societal position. When this gets out (Vogue is already talking about it, so its just the matter of time) it will become mainstream, which means bye-bye anti-anything and understatement and hello world. The silliest thing in wiki description is the part how nomcore is a response to hipster subculture. Funny, how it is opposed to hipsters but it lies on same grounds. I can`t wait where this will end up. Can`t stop laughing.

But, seriously though, I like this new trend.

Sports socks, high waisted trousers and beanies are all considered 'Normcore' items.

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren`t beanies a huge trend few years back?

The most cited person when it comes to normcore is Jeremy Lewis, the founder/editor of Garmento and a freelance stylist and fashion writer.  As Jeremy states, "right now a lot of people use fashion as a means to buy rather than discover an identity and they end up obscured and defeated."

Seriously, dude?

Lewis continues and explains the essence of normcore - "It's a very flat look, conspicuously unpretentious". Again, SERIOUSLY, dude?!

Honestly, I don`t give a rats ass (pardon my french) about what is cool, not cool, in or out, trend or my biggest faux pass in the history of bad taste. Its just hilarious how staying under the radar, being unpretentious and with "identity" for some people nowadays means creating a new trend that advocates totally opposite values. Hypocrite, much?

I don˙t know if I maybe misunderstood all of this, what normcore really is, but I think that having a need to stand out from standing out is, well - standing out. "I like the idea that one doesn't need their clothes to make a statement." - and this right there, that move, that sentence is in fact a STATEMENT! And the way you dress to not dress, the way you are not making a statement with your appereance - you are making a statement.

To be honest, I didn`t think that this topic will lead me here and that post of this proportions will be made. Chelsea inspired me, and the more I gave it thought, more I realized how exactly I felt about it.

My version of normcore is maybe not so true normcore at all... but since the philosophy of normcore is simplicity and our own identity, I guess, I can`t go wrong, right?

I cannot help but wonder (totally channeling my inner Carrie), if this second outfit collage really is normcore? By what I can see posted all over internet  - it is not. Normcore seems to be a certain trend with defining set of "rules" of what to wear to be normcore. Certain wardrobe staples make your look more or less normcore, and they are very distinctive. If you try to build your normcore outfit following their philosophy early described with few quotes (remember those words - unpretentious, laid back, not caring ... etc.) I don`t think my second pick is anywhere near normcore. Although it is simple, comfy, casual and laid back, it still doesn`t follow those defining rules that make someone normcore. And since this trend has very distinctive and defining set of rules that make its essence, it is far far from being unpretentious. If you really don`t care, then, dude - don`t care.
Stop wearing Nike, Birkenstocks, NB or whatever and buy friggin` walmart stuff for 10 $.
End of story.

Finally, in the end, what is my take on this? Yay or nay? Honestly, yes. To a certain point. What I am trying to say is, I like the casual sense of this trend. Just put some clothes on and go on your merry way. And that is it. The rest, so called philosophy - I would prefer hipsters. They seem a bit less hypocrite about it all.

To see how much normcore, or at all, are you, take this quiz.

Carnival teatime

Its that time of the year. Masquerade. Carnival. Think of Rio or Venice (Italy). Here in Croatia this is an old custom that has been celebrated for many centuries. And each February/March we dress up as somebody else and live the role. And eat "doughnuts".

This photo shoot reminded me a bit about Alice and her mad hatter. And tea time.

How insanely amazing are these? I need to own a pair like this. The chances for me to DIY them are like slim to none, I mean I can try, but, I think this is way out of my league. I can`t sew for me without a mannequin, so, there`s that.

But, I am sure that my seamstress will do the trick. And I am thinking in dark blue and white as well.
Perfect for spring. And maybe a pair for now, in winter option? Now I am all over  the place!
